Heath Ledger & Misguided Christians

Heath Ledger and Misguided Christians
Current mood: disappointed
Category: Religion and Philosophy

I've been keeping up with the news lately (for a change – I'm a very sporadic news watcher) and I have been following the Heath Ledger story as I'm sure some of you have.. He was a great actor of our time and his presence will be missed.. It's always shocking when someone goes right at their prime.. It's a sad topic but I think what's even more saddening is all the press that certain religious groups are getting for "boycotting" his upcoming funeral and all making their own dissertations on whether this guy is on his way to hell or not.. [all this being sparked because of the fact that he played a homosexual in a very popular film - in case you're wondering wth I'm talking about.. I'm pretty sure everyone knows though!]

I really hate it when things like this come out and start to happen.. As a Christian, it deeply disturbs and angers me that these people like to say they're speaking on behalf of all of us.. All organizations have their small cells of "loonies" and unfortch, they're usually the ones that make the headlines.. Christians have'em, Muslims definitely have'em.. Heck, even PETA has'em..

But what is most maddening to me, is that from a Christian standpoint – these few radicals are completely in the wrong.. Not only is their behavior appalling from a modernistic societies POV - It is the complete OPPOSITE of the Christian way to judge others.. (Let He who is without sin cast the first stone.. Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged.. any of this a'ringin' a bell?!? )

- It isn't up to us to say whether or not someone is going to hell or heaven.. That isn't our job, and none of us are anywhere NEAR being that infallible to make such a decision. This is why we believe in God people! And I don't know about you, but my God is a merciful one.. he doesn't hate homosexuals.. It's a complex subject in that department to be sure but I truly believe he loves us all..

There's all these people who want to control and govern the way others live but the only life you can truly run is your own.. And I think that's just what we should stick to.. It's part of our unique human nature to judge but it should at the very least be kept to ourselves.. They forget that there are people who loved this man and are grieving for him.. Being spiteful and hateful at such a fragile moment just destroys the good reputation that I think most Christians deserve.. It's not fair and I wish that people didn't associate something so unloving and cruel with something that I hold dear in my life.. I know peoples preconceived notions about Christians – I used to be a skeptic.. I can tell you it isn't good.. Alls I can do about that is march on and keep living my life as a decent, compassionate human being.. I don't preach but golly, if anyone ever wants to talk I'm all ears and mouth.. RIP Heath Ledger.. I hope you now have the solace you couldn't seem to find in this life..
